What is COVID-19? According to www.cdc.gov, COVID-19, or the coronavirus, is a strain from a family of coronaviruses that causes respiratory illness, possibly severe or life threatening, in humans, as well as other animals. Genetic analysis of COVID-19 says it originated in bats, although we are still unsure of how it was transferred to humans.
What can I do to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in my community?
- Avoid contact with individuals who are sick
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose without first washing hands thoroughly
- Stay home when you are sick, and notify anyone you may come in contact with that you feel ill
- Cover all coughs, sneezes, and throw all tissues in the trash
- Clean and disinfect areas that are frequently touched, such as doorknobs and handrails, with household cleaning spray or wipes
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (About the length of the song “Happy Birthday”)
- ALWAYS if hands are visibly dirty
- Before eating
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
- If you feel sick or suspect you may carry COVID-19, wear a mask in order to protect yourself and those around you. If not, there is no need to wear a mask. In fact, many health professionals recommend not wearing a mask if you are healthy
